Laura joined us in September and we will update this information as soon as possible.
I am Assistant Principal responsible for Inclusion and one of the Special Education Needs Coordinators (SENCo). Within my role I aim to ensure that our students receive the best support possible to help them overcome any barriers they may face socially, emotionally and academically.
In addition, I am also responsible for the development of teaching and learning, with a particular focus on inclusion and SEND specific professional development so that we are able to deliver Quality First Teaching for all students across the academy.
Encompassed within this, I manage a fully committed team of Learning Support Assistants (LSA’s). The team are passionate about working with our students both within the classroom and by providing intervention for small groups of students who may benefit from additional support.
Another exciting focus of mine is the continued development of our rewards system. It is my aim to ensure that every student is recognised for all that they do and that we reward at all levels. At Iceni Academy students are able to collect positive points on G4S (you can track their progress too!) with these leading to rewards. Awards include Student of the Week, weekly VIP passes and breakfast/lunch with the Principal to name a few. Furthermore, through our ‘Points for Prizes’ initiative, students can also trade up their points for items such as footballs, stationary and time in the onsite Youth Club – The Hive, plus many more.
The development of Social, Moral, Spiritual, Cultural (SMSC) and the British Values education our students receive across the academy is also an area of responsibility. Our aim is to ensure that our students leave us at the end of Year 11 as well rounded individuals, able to successfully contribute to society in modern Britain and beyond.
The Mental Health of our students is very important to us with the ultimate aim being that our students experience the benefits of having a positive mental attitude. With this in mind, I work along staff to develop our knowledge and understanding of the students and ways in which we are able to support them, providing strategies to help them move forward successfully.
I am one of the Assistant Principals at Iceni Academy, and most of my work relates to ensuring that our students leave us with the very best set of qualifications they are able to achieve, ready to take their next steps into post-16 education, employment and training. We achieved our very best set of results in Summer 2018, and I am excited to build on these as our younger year groups work their way through our Academy.
I work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Directors of Faculties and teaching and learning staff to ensure that students are well supported in their academic studies. I also manage the ways in which our students’ successes are communicated to parents and carers through, for example, reports and our online student information hub Go4Schools. I help to shape the curriculum and the subjects our students study, including managing the Year 8 options process.
I also have responsibility for developing the character of our students, and work really closely with our fantastic students to run projects such as the Iceni Parliament (our large – and growing! – student voice movement), the prefect system and the anti-bullying ambassadors. I am passionate about ensuring that our students are able to have a real impact on their Academy and I am always happy to hear new suggestions from our students for ways in which we can improve our Academy even further!
My role at Iceni academy is a very wide and varied.
Primarily I am responsible for the safety of the students and staff whilst in the academy and on academy related activities. I am also the academy Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and am responsible for the strategic support for those children who require additional support with their learning whether this be as a result of an academic or social need.
My everyday working life also encompasses the provision for children who are looked after or have English as an additional language (EAL). I also lead, strategically, with the support of our independent Careers advisor, the Information, Education and Guidance support that is provided for our students so that they are as informed as possible for their Post 16 plans.
I believe that teaching is about educating the whole child and ensuring that they are ready to contribute positively to their community and to the society as a whole.
If you have any questions that you feel cannot be answered by the subject specialists then please do not hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to meeting you and to supporting your child to achieve all that they are capable of.
I am delighted to introduce myself as Principal at Iceni Academy. My role is to help set the strategic direction for the Academy working in conjunction with the Governors and The Trust.
I am proud of what we have achieved over the past five years and I am very pleased that our results continue to represent the hard work and determination of our students and their families and all of our staff here.
We are about so much more than exam results and I hope that, in the past 18 months in particular, you will have noticed us improving in many areas relating to the character of our students and the culture in the Academy.
If, after contacting the relevant members of my team, you need to get in touch you can do so via Laura Rourke, PA to the Senior Leadership Team on email@example.com.
I look forward to seeing you at school events and to working with you to get the best for your children and the community.
