Iceni Academy students investigate secrets of Holkham Nature Reserve

Twenty year 11 students from Iceni Academy dodged the rain and wind to enjoy a day at the beach with a difference.

The students, who are all studying for the new, tough GCSE in Geography at Iceni Academy, spent time at Holkham National Nature Reserve to study the sand dune system which forms part of the reserve.

In order to meet the requirements of the GCSE specification students also spent time surveying the impact of tourism across the reserve including asking other visitors questions.

“Students always get a lot out of a field trip and the chance to look at the links between different aspects of Geography” said Geography teacher Mr Boyd who led the trip. “This year group was particularly impressive in how the students interacted with the other visitors. I received lots of compliments about their maturity and manners”.

“We are very proud of our students” said Academy Associate Principal Stephen Plume. “I was particularly pleased to hear about the lovely comments people wanted to pass on about our students on the Geography trip. They are a credit to their families and our community”.
